Rendering honors for a fallen Soldier

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Service members and civilians line Peterson Boulevard Oct. 25, 2011, for the return of Army Staff Sgt. Robert Cowdrey. Hundreds of people lined the street from the flight line to the north gate to honor his service, commitment and dedication to the nation. Cowdrey, a combat medic deployed from Fort Bragg, N.C., died Oct. 13 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, from injuries suffered during combat operations. Bolton visits 21st OG Detachment 1

Maj. Gen. Edward Bolton (center), director of Space and Cyber Operations at Headquarters Air Force along with Col. Catherine Perro (right), director of Space Operations at HQ Air Force, received an orientation tour of the 21st Operations Group Detachment 1 at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Sept. 29. The visit was part of an immersion visit of the space assets in New Mexico. Detachment 1 is a geographically separated unit of the 21st Space Wing that performs deep space observations using three high-powered, 1.2 meter Ground Based Electro Optical Deep Space Surveillance (GEODSS) telescopes. The telescopes can see objects 2,000 - 100,000 kilometers from the earth's surface. The unit is manned 24 hours a day; seven days a week to ensure America's satellites and other space assets can avoid the thousands of space objects that orbit the earth. (U.S. Air Force photo)

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Master Sgt. Tony Hayne, 21st Civil Engineer Squadron, carefully adjusts the sight on his bow during the 2011 Combined Federal Campaign archery tournament Oct. 14 at the U.S. Air Force Academy archery range. The tournament consisted of 20 target stations to test the archers’ aim and ability. The tournament raised nearly $300 for the CFC campaign. Wing runs in 14th AF challenge

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Col. Chris Crawford (center), 21st Space Wing commander, gathered a team of runners for a 14th Air Force wing running challenge. The team had 10 runners of varying ranks -- both enlisted and officers -- including at least four females as well as the command chief, vice commander and wing commander. Pictured (left to right) are Staff Sgt. Julie Sabin, Senior Airman Julian Fiorina, Col. Jeffrey Flewelling, Crawford, Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Trottier, 1st Lt. Alyssa Tetrault and Lt. Col. Steven Clancy. The team ran Oct. 5, 2011, at the fitness center track, and posted a time of 25:39 for the five mile relay run. The challenge pits wings against each other to see who could record the fastest combined five-mile run time. The results will be announced at the 14th AF video teleconference in November.
