Lt. Col Severin Blenkush, 21st Contracting Squadron’s Detachment 1 commander, takes time out of a trip to Thule Air Base, Greenland, to meet with a few Inuit children in a small village north of air base. Colonel Blenkush and his eight-member team handle all of Thule’s contracts in their Copenhagen, Denmark office so Airmen stationed there have access to basic needs, including lighting, heating and food. Three solar powered call boxes, like this one, have been set up around Peterson’s five and 10 kilometer trails. The call boxes use radio waves to transmit a call to the Peterson Installation Control Center. During an emergency, the caller simply pushes the bright red button on the box.
