PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 21st Space Wing held its quarterly awards breakfast for the second quarter July 29 at The Club. Col. John Shaw (left), 21st SW commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Idalia Peele (right), 21st SW command chief, presented the awards, including: Airman of the quarter -- Airman 1st Class Christian Mejia, 721st Security Forces Squadron; NCO of the quarter -- Staff Sgt. Angelo Tafoya, 21st Medical Group; Senior NCO -- Master Sgt. Karen Cullen, 821st Air Base Group; Company grade officer -- 2nd Lt. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Master Sgt. Rebecca Alaniz, on behalf of the Pikes Peak Top 3, presents the February 2014 Sharp Warrior Award to Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Grant, U.S. Air Force Academy Band. Grant performed flawlessly as a soloist with the 49-member concert band at Festival of Winds which reached 500 potential USAFA and Air Force recruits. He also led a six-member administration section during an unprecedented personnel turnover. Additionally, Grant aided nine members in reviewing and updating their personnel records for the Enlisted Retention Boards, which resulted in his selection as February’s Sharp Warrior. CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN AIR FORCE STATION, Colo. – Col. Travis Harsha (left), 721st Mission Support Group and Cheyenne Mountain AFS installation commander, stands with a few of the service members who were recognized for outstanding performance during the mudslide response and recovery Sept. 12, 2013, at CMAFS. A mixed group of Airmen and civilian personnel were the recipients of 21 Air Force Achievement Medals and 32 commander’s coins during a ceremony at the mountain fortress Feb. 7. Servicemembers cleaned up several thousand cubic yards of earth and debris and tons of rock at the front door of CMAFS, fully restoring the area less than six months after the slide. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Senior Airman Daniel Conner (left), Headquarters, NORAD and USNORTHCOM, receives the Team Peterson First Sergeant Council Diamond Sharp award from Chief Master Sgt. Roderick Schwald, HQ NORAD and USNORTHCOM first sergeant. Conner is a knowledge operations manager, and performs myriad duties in support of the current operations center including records management, SharePoint content management, and evaluation and decorations coordination in support of more than 210 joint service and bi-national personnel. Conner is an active unit Joint Color Guard member, where he volunteered 25 hours off-duty time to seven community events, and was key in training 140 personnel which reduced preparation time requirements by two hours. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Senior Master Sgt. Brian Smith (left), a representative of the Pikes Peak Top 3, presents the December 2013 Sharp Warrior Award to Senior Airman Alayna Deherrera from the 21st Mission Support Group staff. Deherrera provides excellent customer service and displays impeccable professionalism as the MSG workflow manager, a position normally held by an NCO. She is the driving force behind the 21 MSG's 100 percent on-time-rate for all taskers sent to the 21st Space Wing, 14th Air Force and Air Force Space Command. Deherrera not only keeps the MSG front office on track to meet all deadlines, but also tracks suspenses for six squadrons and one detachment. She expertly coordinates hundreds of officer performance reports, enlisted performance reports, decorations and promotion recommendation forms, ensuring that members’ records accurately portray the hard work they contribute. Anthony Brodie from the 21st Security Forces Squadron. Brodie displayed impeccable character and military bearing while completing his duties as both the base confinement NCO as well as the security forces augmentee program manager. As the confinement NCO Brodie interacts with a multitude of different military and civilian agencies, usually under less than ideal circumstances, and does so while presenting a professional military image. PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - Nine Airmen from the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron received the Air Force achievement medal for their efforts removing several thousand cubic yards of earth and tons of rock from the north portal entrance of Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, during a ceremony at the base auditorium Dec. 18.
