THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – Following months of complete darkness, members of Team Thule celebrate first light Feb. 21 at Thule Air Base. Despite the cold temperatures, part of the first-light tradition includes wearing their finest summer garb. This summer, Thule will see months of sunshine with no night. Thule Air Base, one of the six installations operated by the 21st Space Wing, is located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is home to the world’s northernmost deep-water seaport. THULE AIR BASE, Greenland -- The Ocean Giant waits in the bay for tanker operations to finish, while the Rising Star, the Air Force’s only pusher boat, motors through the bay. The Rising Star helped position cargo ships into and out of Thule’s port during Operation Pacer Goose, Thule’s annual resupply mission. Thule is located 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle and is home to the northernmost deep water port in the world. THULE AIR BASE, Greenland -- The CPO Germany pumps fuel into Thule’s bulk fuel storage area during Operation Pacer Goose. The annual resupply operation is the one time of the year that supplies can be brought into Thule’s port.
