PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --
Team Pete, another great week has passed and hopefully you were able to get out this past weekend and enjoy the sunshine with family and friends, either at SnoFest or locally. Remember that while we are enjoying the warm weather, many of our fellow Airmen around the world are working in extremely difficult conditions. Please keep them in your thought and prayers.
Tonight, the 21st Space Wing hosts our Annual Awards Ceremony, where we will announce and recognize our wing annual award winners. 21st SW Knights from around the globe have convened at Peterson for an enjoyable and educational week of tours, briefing and visits, culminating in this exciting event. Throughout the week, our nominees toured such locations as Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and the Air Force Academy, and met with senior leaders to learn more about our wing and its vast mission areas. My thanks go out to those who have made this event possible and congratulations to all the annual award nominees and winners.
Speaking of winners, another group of our superior performers also deserves our recognition. Congratulations to the following 21st Contracting Squadron Airmen on being named Air Force Space Command-level winners for the 2008 Contracting Awards:
Secretary of the Air Force Professionalism in Contracting Award (Non-supervisory) - Teresa Lee
Outstanding Contracting Officer Award (CGO) - Capt. James W. Atchley
Outstanding Contracting Civilian Award (GS-12 and above) - Jeremy Lubbert
Outstanding Contracting Support Award - Kristen Weaver
Special Recognition Award - 21 CONS Systems Management Team
Best of luck to each of you as you represent the 21st SW and AFSPC at the Air Force level.
As many of you have noticed, Peterson is undergoing an "extreme makeover" on our base housing. I am happy to report we are on schedule for the addition of approximately 90 new custom built homes for this summer. Additionally, by mid-2010, we are scheduled to have a total of 129 new homes for Team Pete families. This is a great quality of life improvement for our base, and our housing partner, Tierra Vista Communities (TVC), is doing a great job of ensuring these base improvements remain on schedule.
The base and TVC are also working together to construct a round-about intersection where Stewart Avenue meets Malmstrom. Construction begins in April and should take about four months, so everyone will need to have patience while these improvements are made, as well as become familiar with negotiating the new intersection once complete. Once completed, this will facilitate a better flow of traffic though this intersection.
One of the tenets of our wing mission is to "provide unsurpassed installation support". Our base partners also work to ensure they are providing this highest quality of support. 5 Star Bank recently added a drive-thru automated teller machine at their branch on Peterson. This new addition will provide convenience to every Team Pete member. This is just another way Team Pete and our partners work together to take care of our Airmen and their families.
Finally, the driving range at the golf course had a soft re-opening Feb. 2, giving golfers the chance to go out to the Silver Spruce and dust off their golf clubs. The driving range is another collaborative project between our base and TVC, and is a great example of how the 21st SW provides "unsurpassed installation support" for Team Pete, improving the quality of life for our Airmen and our families. Have a great week!
