Recognition and promotions surround holiday weekend

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Last week was full of special events. We started the week off with the Team Peterson Quarterly Awards Breakfast, where we recognized some of the professionals here. Later that day, we were honored to have former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, Gen. Ronald Fogleman, deliver a brief on Air Force Core Values and leadership. The Team Peterson Promotion Ceremony also took place last week, where we were fortunate to promote 38 members of our team. On Thanksgiving, we were able to enjoy time with family and friends and reflect on the importance of what we do each and every day.

The Team Pete Quarterly Awards Breakfast was very successful and a wonderful chance for us to recognize our top performers across the base. All the nominees deserve to be acknowledged for their accomplishments and hard work. Our winners for the 3rd Quarter are:

Airman: Senior Airman Francine Palmer
Non-commissioned Officer: Tech. Sgt. Mark Scott
Senior Non-commissioned Officer: Master Sgt. William Arcuri
Company Grade Officer: Capt. Ronald Feeser
Civilian, Category I: Jason Matthew
Civilian Category II: Carrie Granzella
Supervisory Civilian, Category I: Cathy Brooks
Supervisory Civilian, Category II: Raymond Prideaux

Please congratulate these individuals on their well-deserved honor.

As part of the Year of Leadership, Peterson AFB was privileged to have retired General Fogleman come and speak on Core Values and leadership. General Fogleman stressed the important role Integrity plays in leadership and how you should never lead through fear or ignorance. We need to continue to develop our future Air Force leaders. This process of growing leaders does not happen from the top down, but is accomplished by empowering our Airmen to develop leaders at all levels.

We had a chance to promote some of our Air Force leaders during the Team Pete Promotion Ceremony. All promotion ceremonies are special events, however, on Tuesday, we were able to promote 38 members of our team ranging from airman 1st class to chief master sergeant. Airman 1st Class Aimee Algrim from the 21st Medical Support Squadron was the junior member promoted, while Robert Nussbaum from the 21st Communications Squadron was promoted to chief master sergeant. It is a unique opportunity to have someone at the beginning of their career being promoted with someone who has reached the pinnacle of their career.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able spend time with family and friends. For those of you who are deployed in support of the War on Terror or are deployed in-place, doing the 21st Space Wing mission every day, I thank you for all you do. Serving in the military is an honor we should never take for granted. When discussing military life General Fogleman stated, "There are a lot of things you can go do with your life, but you will never do the same kinds of things you'll do in the military, and you will never do them with such a group of people. This is a good life because you serve it with good people. And so I want to thank each and every one of you for what you do each day for our nation and for our Air Force, and I want to thank you for allowing me to be in the company of good people."

I, too, want to thank you for allowing me to serve with such good people each and every day.
