  • 101 days of summer: Have fun, think safety

It seems like just yesterday as I perused Facebook, a post caught my attention with “Today’s the 110th day of January!” Yep, with all the snow in April, it felt like Colorado’s winter would never end. Fortunately, the cold weather has finally moved on, and summer will be quickly upon us.
  • Being a Filipino American in today’s Air Force

My family immigrated to America when I was 3 years old. My dad was talked into it by his older brother who was already living in California during the ‘70s. My dad was sold when my uncle told him about all the opportunities America had versus the Philippines. Immigrating to a new country with no money was rough to say the least. With the help of relatives and the hard work of my parents, our family was finally able to stand on our own feet and eventually buy our first house, an American dream in itself.
  • Earth Day 2018

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, began in 1970 when millions of people took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development. Earth Day is now a global event as more than 1 billion people in 192 countries take part in the largest civic-focused day of action in the world. Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, is a part of this celebration, and encourages a focus on plastics and energy reduction within the Air Force theme of: Conserve Today. Secure Tomorrow.
  • Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month: #NotJustApril

April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The goal of SAAPM is to raise public awareness regarding sexual violence and to educate individuals and communities on prevention. While any form of unwanted sexual behavior can be uncomfortable or difficult to discuss, it is an issue that exists in every community throughout the country and all over the world.
  • We all remember our first...bad supervisor

“Women don’t belong in the Air Force and I will do everything I can to get you out. Starting now, you’ll be working on mid-shifts,” said my worst supervisor. This meant I would be switching from the 3 p.m. to midnight to the midnight to 8 a.m. shift as a computer maintenance technician. Although, I could easily make the schedule work for mission purposes, I was very unwilling to adapt because a technical sergeant was not comfortable working around women.
  • Bring on the Revitalization

A few weeks ago, I took command of the 21st Security Forces Squadron. It is an incredible honor to lead such an extraordinary group of people. Prior to my arrival at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, I served as the Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein’s legislative advisor in Washington, D.C. In that position, I was able to personally witness the development of his three focus areas, one of which is revitalizing squadrons.
  • Good wingmen make a difference

I cracked a couple of puns with a masked man I assumed to be a doctor. He said he was sorry, but I knew it wasn't about the puns. He showed genuine regret.
  • Service Before Self

With Memorial Day only a few days past, it seems appropriate to talk about “service before self,” the most misunderstood Air Force Value. I was already on active duty when the Air Force created the Core Values. At that time, many of us thought, “Well, it’s official now, the Air Force is more important than my family or me.”This year marks the 21st
