  • Transition Assistance Program changes to better prepare Airmen

    Under the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019, the United States military has changed its policies with regards to the Transition Assistance Program for service members who are separating or retiring from service. Service members are now required to complete a pre-separation briefing and individualized initial counseling no later than 365 days out from their separation or retirement date. This allows them more time to make crucial decisions about the next steps in their lives. It also allows organizations like the Airman and Family Readiness Center on Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, to offer Airmen more individualized support.

  • Construction to begin on new military working dog facility

    Military working dogs and their handlers on Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, will soon operate out of improved facilities. Construction of a new security forces kennel, located near the baseball fields, is set to begin in late November.

  • Preventing seasonal influenza

    Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by two main types of the flu virus: Types A and B. The influenza A and B viruses that routinely spread in people are responsible for seasonal flu epidemics each year. Both can cause mild to severe illness with symptoms including fever, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, headache, coughing and general fatigue. Serious outcomes of infection can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as elderly people, young children and people with certain health conditions are at a higher risk of serious complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated annually.
